Compassion and Love in Times of Need
What is a Hospitality House?
Roanoke is a medical community with several outstanding medical centers and limited affordable lodging for adult patients and their families.
Caregivers often must camp out in hospital waiting rooms, hallways, and in their cars. Hospital personnel observe that many very sick patients are more concerned about their family’s living situation than about their own recovery.
Many families of inpatients from local hospitals require lodging each night. In addition, dozens of outpatients with serious conditions and their caregivers need accommodations. The Roanoke Hospitality House would help alleviate this huge need for affordable, comfortable lodging and would also provide a loving community of support Day guests could stop by the Hospitality House and use common areas for food, laundry, television, or computers.
Staff and volunteers would be on site to assist the families who stay at the House, as well as the outpatients who come for day respite in between treatments such as radiation and chemotherapy.
Referrals to The Roanoke Hospitality House could be made by staff at our local medical centers and providers.
Our Story
What Ignited the Project?
In 2013, Charlie, was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. Over the course of his illness, his family made themselves at home at the SECU Family House in Winston-Salem, NC where they traveled from Marion, VA. Living this experience made them realize early on the impact of a hospitality home.
The family discussed on occasions, prior to his passing, that Roanoke was also in need of this home away from home for traveling patients and their families facing medical care or treatments.
After Charlie's passing in October 2017, his family began to use his memory to ignite that dream and make it a reality.
This brings us to where we are today and we need to team with the Roanoke community but also with the surrounding communities heavily impacted by the hardships imposed when travel for medical treatment is required.

Guest Room Sponsorship
At The Roanoke Hospitality House, we are dedicated to ensuring our guests have an updated, clean and accommodating place to stay so we will be searching for companies, individuals, civic groups, Sunday School classes, etc. to adopt a room and sponsor its creation/remodel and furnishing.
Specialty Room Sponsorships
With this initiative, our goal is to promote community which is vital to the success of a Hospitality House and to each guest. We will be in need of sponsors for a community kitchen, community space, laundry, chapel, library, etc.
Keeping the Lights On
With our organization’s mission always in mind, it will be critical to ensure that funding is available to provide a high level of services and accountability to our guests. This will require ongoing partnerships with individuals, groups and companies to fund the day to day expenses of our mission.
